Name: ORiNOCO Wireless LAN PC Card (3.3 volt) Driver
Author: Proxim

Question 1

Install fails or driver won't load?

Accepted Answer

These are legacy PCMCIA drivers. Run the installer as administrator (or in Windows XP compatibility mode), use the exact Proxim/ORiNOCO package for the card's model/revision, and temporarily disable driver-signature enforcement on newer Windows. Don't use a generic wireless driver.

Question 2

Card not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the laptop has a 3.3 V PC Card slot—not a 5 V-only slot—and that the PCMCIA/CardBus controller is enabled in BIOS/Device Manager. Insert the card firmly, check for a power LED, then remove/reinsert after boot. Try another slot if available.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old ORiNOCO/Lucent/Proxim drivers and client utilities first, reboot, then install one matching driver/client package. Don't mix an older client manager with a newer driver.
