Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the BIOS sees the Optiarc AD-7640A. If not, check the 40-pin IDE cable orientation, master/slave jumper, and Molex power. In Windows, use Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes and verify the IDE/ATAPI controller is enabled.

Question 2

Install/update fails?

Accepted Answer

Windows already includes a native optical-drive driver; avoid third-party driver-updater packages. If Device Manager shows Code 10/31/39, uninstall the device without deleting driver files, reboot, and let Windows reinstall it.

Question 3

Version/firmware conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Do not mix old Optiarc firmware with a generic Windows driver. If an update causes errors, roll back the driver. Remove stale upper/lower filter drivers only if the DVD writer disappears after installing burning software.
