Name: OPCOM Elm327 USB Driver
Author: OPCOM

Question 1

Install fails or “Unknown device”?

Accepted Answer

Unplug the OPCOM Elm327 USB, run the driver installer as Administrator, and reboot before reconnecting. If Windows blocks the driver, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement or install the signed USB-serial VCP driver matching the adapter’s chip (check Device Manager for FTDI/CH340).

Question 2

Device not detected / no COM port?

Accepted Answer

Try another USB port and a data-capable cable, not a charge-only one. In Device Manager, check Ports (COM & LPT); if missing, reinstall the VCP driver. Then select the assigned COM port in the OPCOM/ELM software.

Question 3

Version conflicts after updating?

Accepted Answer

Older OPCOM software may install an outdated USB-serial driver. Uninstall the old driver and device entry, reboot, then install only one driver version. Avoid mixing bundled and vendor VCP drivers.
