Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Run the Olympus package as administrator, disable antivirus during setup, and use the 32-bit driver on 32-bit Windows. The VN-3100PC is legacy; on Windows 10/11 use a compatible Windows VM if setup is blocked.

Question 2

Recorder not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a known data USB cable (not charge-only), connect directly to a rear USB port, power on the VN-3100PC, and check Device Manager for unknown devices. Reinstall the Olympus driver if it appears with a warning.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall older Olympus DSS Player/USB driver versions first, then in Device Manager uninstall the recorder and delete its driver. Reboot and install one matching driver package; don’t force a generic mass-storage driver.
