The OHCI-konformer 1394-Hostcontroller is an OHCI-compliant IEEE 1394 host controller that connects a Windows PC to compatible FireWire devices. Its Microsoft driver enables Windows to recognize the controller and communicate with attached equipment, such as digital camcorders, external storage drives, and audio interfaces.

Key Features

  • Provides operating-system support for compatible OHCI-based IEEE 1394 controllers.
  • Enables data communication between the computer’s FireWire port and supported peripherals.
  • Integrates with Windows Device Manager for checking controller status, updating the driver, and troubleshooting connection problems.
  • Supports controller operation on Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, and XP when the appropriate driver version is used for the system and hardware.

How to Install

  1. Check your Windows version. Confirm whether your PC runs Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, or XP, and whether it uses a 32-bit or 64-bit edition. Choose a driver package that matches both.
  2. Identify the controller. Open Device Manager and expand “IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers.” Locate the OHCI-konformer 1394-Hostcontroller or its English equivalent. If it appears as an unknown device, check its hardware IDs before selecting a download.
  3. Prepare the driver. Download a compatible, trusted package and extract it if necessary. Microsoft’s standard controller driver may already be included with Windows, so a separate download is not always required.
  4. Install or update. Run the supplied installer, if available. Otherwise, right-click the controller in Device Manager, choose the driver-update option, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Follow the prompts to complete installation.
  5. Restart and test. Restart if prompted, reconnect your FireWire device, and check that the controller shows no warning icon in Device Manager.

Some FireWire peripherals require their own drivers or software in addition to the host-controller driver. If the controller works but an attached device does not, check that device’s compatibility requirements before changing controller drivers.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or shows Code 28/52: The Microsoft OHCI 1394 driver may be missing or blocked on newer Windows. In Device Manager, uninstall the device, reboot, then scan for hardware changes. If offered, install the Microsoft OHCI 1394 host controller driver via Windows Update.
  • Device not detected: Check that the IEEE 1394 controller is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and not disabled in Device Manager. Reseat the FireWire cable and test another port/cable; OHCI 1394 ports may not power devices.
  • Version conflicts/Code 10 or 31: Remove any third-party 1394 drivers and roll back to the Microsoft OHCI driver. Restart before reinstalling to avoid stale driver conflicts.
