Name: Number Nine GXE VL Bus Graphics Driver
Author: Number Nine

Question 1

Install fails?

Accepted Answer

Modern Windows generally cannot initialize a VL Bus card. Install on a supported legacy Windows version, ensure the motherboard’s VLB/chipset drivers are loaded, and disable ACPI/Plug-and-Play conflicts if the setup refuses to start.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the card firmly in the VLB slot, enable VLB in BIOS, and check that the slot’s IRQ/address settings do not conflict with other ISA/VLB devices. The GXE VL is not fully PnP, so jumpers or setup software may need manual configuration.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove any existing Number Nine or generic VGA drivers in Safe Mode before installing. Use the GXE VL Bus driver specifically—not GXE PCI/Pro or another Number Nine model—and verify the INF matches the card’s device ID.
