Name: Nokia CA 42 Driver
Author: Nokia

Question 1

Install fails or shows “driver unavailable”?

Accepted Answer

The CA-42 cable often uses a Prolific or ArkMicro USB-serial chip, not a Nokia-specific driver. Check Device Manager for the VID/PID, then install the driver matching that chipset as administrator.

Question 2

Device not detected / no COM port appears?

Accepted Answer

Try another USB port and cable, avoid hubs, and check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or a USB Serial Controller. A charge-only cable or faulty CA-42 will never create a COM port.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows updates?

Accepted Answer

Remove old Nokia/Prolific drivers, reboot, and install only one driver version for the detected chipset. If an update breaks the port, roll back the driver or use a known-compatible older version.
