Question 1

Driver/software install fails on Windows 10/11?

Accepted Answer

Older Nikon D3100 driver packages and ViewNX/Transfer utilities may block installation. Run the installer as administrator, try Windows 7 compatibility mode, or skip the driver—Windows usually detects the D3100 via built-in MTP/PTP support.

Question 2

Camera not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the D3100 is powered on and set to MTP/PTP in its setup menu. Use a data-capable USB cable directly into a rear port, not a hub. If still missing, test the card in a reader to rule out cable/port issues.

Question 3

Version conflicts or duplicate entries?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old Nikon drivers/software, restart, then install only the current package. In Device Manager, remove stale “Nikon D3100” entries under Portable Devices or Imaging Devices before reconnecting.
