Question 1

Install fails?

Accepted Answer

The Coolpix S550 is a legacy compact camera; don’t force an old Nikon Windows 7 driver on Windows 10/11. Uninstall previous Nikon USB/driver packages, reboot, then connect the camera and let Windows install its built-in USB Mass Storage/PTP driver.

Question 2

Camera not detected?

Accepted Answer

Power the S550 on and set its USB option to Mass Storage or PTP in the setup menu. Use a known data cable directly into a rear USB port—no hub—and check Device Manager for an unknown device.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove older Nikon Transfer/ViewNX or third-party tethering software that installs its own USB driver. Reboot and reconnect; if only copying photos, use an SD card reader to avoid driver conflicts.
