Question 1

Installer fails or errors out?

Accepted Answer

The Coolpix L820 normally uses Windows’ built-in PTP/MTP camera driver, so avoid forcing older Nikon packages. If a Nikon utility fails on Windows 10/11, run it as administrator or in compatibility mode; otherwise import photos via File Explorer/Photos.

Question 2

Camera not detected?

Accepted Answer

Set the L820’s USB option to PTP or Mass Storage, use a known data-capable USB cable, connect directly to a rear USB port, and turn the camera on after connecting.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old Nikon software and any L820 entry under Device Manager’s Portable Devices/Imaging Devices, reboot, then reconnect and let Windows install its inbox driver.
