Name: Motorola SURFboard SB5101 USB Cable Modem Driver
Author: Motorola

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The SB5101 USB driver is legacy and may be blocked on newer Windows versions. Run the installer as administrator, use Windows Compatibility Mode for an older Windows version, and confirm the driver is signed or use a supported OS.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the USB cable and try a rear USB port directly on the PC. Power-cycle the modem, reconnect USB, then use Device Manager’s “Scan for hardware changes.” Confirm the modem is powered and connected to coax.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall existing Motorola SURFboard/USB modem drivers and hidden modem devices in Device Manager, reboot, then install the matching SB5101 driver. Avoid mixing generic CDC modem drivers with the Motorola package.
