Question 1

Install fails or hangs?

Accepted Answer

Disconnect the SBV5121’s USB cable, run the Motorola/SURFboard installer as administrator in Windows compatibility mode, reboot, then reconnect. If Windows blocks the driver as unsigned, use the modem’s Ethernet port instead—the SBV5121 does not need a Windows driver for Ethernet.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the modem is powered and the coax line is active. Plug USB directly into a rear port, not a hub. Check Device Manager for an unknown USB device, then reinstall the driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall older Motorola/SURFboard modem drivers and stale USB composite devices in Device Manager, reboot, and install only the SBV5121 package. Avoid mixing drivers from other cable modems.
