The M Audio Oxygen 8 v2 is a compact USB MIDI keyboard controller used to play software instruments and control music-production applications. Its driver enables communication between the controller and Windows, allowing compatible audio software to receive notes, knob movements, and other MIDI messages.
Key Features
- USB MIDI connectivity for sending keyboard performance data to compatible digital audio workstations and standalone virtual instruments.
- Support for MIDI messages from the keys, pitch and modulation wheels, and assignable controls, with mappings configured in your music software.
- Device recognition that helps applications identify the Oxygen 8 v2 as an available MIDI input.
- A connection for controlling software instruments rather than carrying recorded audio—the Oxygen 8 v2 is a MIDI controller, not an audio interface.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and system type under Settings > System > About, or through System Properties on older systems. Before downloading, confirm that the specific M-Audio driver package explicitly supports your setup. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, do not assume that a driver intended for another version is compatible.
- Download the appropriate driver package and read any included installation instructions. If an installer is provided, leave the Oxygen 8 v2 disconnected until the instructions tell you to connect it.
- Run the installer and approve the Windows permission prompt if requested. Follow the setup steps, then restart your computer if prompted. If the package specifies that no separate driver is needed for your configuration, follow its USB connection instructions instead.
- Connect the controller directly to an available USB port using a suitable cable, and switch it on. Allow Windows to finish detecting the device. If it is not recognized, check Device Manager for warnings and try another port or cable.
- Open your music application and enable the Oxygen 8 v2 in its MIDI input settings. Load a software instrument, select or arm its track, and play a few notes to test the connection. Assign the controller’s knobs as needed within the application.
If the keyboard is detected but produces no sound, check the selected virtual instrument, track monitoring, and audio output settings. Reinstalling the MIDI driver will not resolve an incorrectly configured audio output.
