How to Install

1. Choose the matching download. Select a driver package that lists your Jmicron controller and operating system. The “Legacy” designation refers to a driver variant; it does not mean every legacy package will work across all supported Windows versions.

1. Extract and prepare the files. If the download is compressed, extract it to a folder you can easily locate. Read any included installation notes before proceeding, and avoid installing a package if Windows reports an untrusted publisher.

1. Install the driver. Run the supplied installer, if included. Otherwise, right-click the controller in Device Manager, select the option to update its driver, and browse to the extracted folder. Allow Windows to check for a compatible match rather than forcing an unrelated driver.

1. Restart and test the connection. Restart if prompted, then confirm that the controller appears without a warning icon in Device Manager. Connect your FireWire peripheral according to its manufacturer’s instructions and test it in the appropriate application.

If the device still does not respond, check the FireWire cable, peripheral power supply, and any additional software required by the connected equipment.

Common Issues and Fixes

• Device not detected: Reseat the PCI card, try another slot, and check Device Manager for hidden/unknown devices. Confirm the FireWire cable and powered device work; this controller will not appear if the PCI slot or BIOS has it disabled.
• Install fails or shows Code 10/28/43: Uninstall any existing 1394 driver, reboot, then run the JMicron legacy package as administrator. Use a signed package matching your Windows version; compatibility mode helps only with the installer, not an incompatible driver.
• Conflicts with Microsoft’s 1394 OHCI driver: Remove mixed third-party packages and roll back to the Windows “1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)” driver, or install the matching JMicron version. Avoid forcing newer Windows drivers onto this legacy controller.
