Name: IBM ThinkPad R50 (1830W46) Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Driver install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

R50 packages are OS- and machine-type-specific. Download the Windows XP/2000 package for 1830W46, extract it fully, run `setup.exe` as administrator, and install the Intel chipset INF first. Installing via Device Manager “Have Disk” can skip required IBM setup steps.

Question 2

Wi-Fi or Ethernet not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the wireless switch and Fn+F5, then install Hotkey Features and the IBM wireless driver. For LAN/modem, enable them in BIOS under Config > Network and install the chipset INF before the network driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Generic Intel/ATI drivers can replace IBM-certified ones. In Device Manager, uninstall the device and delete the driver, reboot, then install the matching IBM/Lenovo package; do not mix 32-bit XP drivers with Vista/7 drivers.
