Name: IBM ThinkCentre S51 (8171WA3) Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Install fails on newer Windows?

Accepted Answer

S51 drivers are mainly for 32-bit XP/2000-era systems. Run the IBM setup as administrator in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, or extract the `.inf` and install via Device Manager. Do not force 64-bit packages.

Question 2

Device not detected after reinstall?

Accepted Answer

Install the Intel chipset driver first, reboot, then install audio, network, and graphics drivers. Check BIOS that onboard LAN/audio are enabled and look for unknown devices in Device Manager.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the existing IBM/OEM driver in Device Manager with “Delete the driver software,” reboot, then install the package matching the 8171WA3 model. Avoid mixing generic Intel/Realtek drivers with IBM packages; use System Restore if rollback is needed.
