Question 1

Install fails on newer Windows?

Accepted Answer

M51 drivers are typically signed for Windows 2000/XP. Run the setup in XP SP3 compatibility mode as administrator, or extract it and install manually through Device Manager.

Question 2

Onboard device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Enter BIOS (F1 at boot) and confirm audio, LAN, and USB controllers are enabled. Install the Intel 915G chipset driver first, then rescan Device Manager.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Windows may replace the IBM Intel graphics or SoundMAX audio driver, causing low resolution or missing sound. Use Device Manager to roll back, then reinstall the IBM package and block that update.
