Name: IBM Proprinter X24 Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The X24 uses a legacy parallel-printer driver. Run the installer as administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode; if setup still fails, use Device Manager → Add a printer → Have Disk and point to the extracted .inf file.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check that the LPT/parallel port is enabled in BIOS (try ECP/EPP), reseat the IEEE-1284 cable, and test another cable/port. Avoid unsupported USB-to-parallel adapters; use a direct LPT port if possible.

Question 3

Driver version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove any existing IBM Proprinter or generic dot-matrix driver, reboot, then install the correct 32/64-bit package. If Windows auto-selects a generic driver, update it via Have Disk and choose IBM Proprinter X24.
