Question 1

Install fails on newer Windows?

Accepted Answer

IBM NetVista 8305KGV driver packages are legacy and may be unsigned or 16-bit. Run setup as Administrator in Windows XP/2000 compatibility mode, or update manually via Device Manager > Update Driver > Browse to the extracted INF.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the onboard audio, LAN, or video controller is enabled in BIOS, then install the IBM chipset INF before other drivers so Windows can enumerate the desktop’s devices correctly.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Windows Update may install a generic driver over the IBM package. Use Device Manager > Roll Back Driver, then reinstall the matching IBM NetVista driver and prevent automatic driver updates for that device.
