The Futronic FS80 is a USB fingerprint scanner that needs the appropriate driver to communicate with your Windows PC. Installing the driver allows compatible software to recognize the scanner and request fingerprint captures. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a package that matches your operating system and system architecture.

Key Features

  • USB device recognition: Helps Windows identify the Futronic FS80 as a fingerprint scanner rather than an unknown USB device.
  • Fingerprint capture support: Provides the device communication needed by compatible applications to acquire fingerprint images.
  • Application connectivity: Enables supported Futronic software and third-party applications built for this scanner to access its hardware.
  • Driver maintenance: Installing a suitable driver can help address detection problems caused by a missing, damaged, or mismatched installation.

The driver provides hardware access; fingerprint enrollment, identity matching, and access-control functions depend on the application you use. Installing it alone does not guarantee Windows Hello compatibility.

How to Install

  1. Check your Windows version and architecture. Open your system information to confirm whether you use Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 and whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit. Select an FS80 driver package that explicitly supports that configuration.
  2. Prepare the driver files. Download the appropriate package and extract it if it is compressed. Read any included installation instructions, particularly those specifying when to connect the scanner.
  3. Install the driver. If the package includes an installer, run it and approve the administrator prompt. If it contains only driver files, open Device Manager, locate the scanner or its unknown-device entry, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
  4. Connect and verify the scanner. Attach the Futronic FS80 to a working USB port when instructed. Restart Windows if requested, then check Device Manager for warning icons or an unresolved device entry.
  5. Test with compatible software. Open your fingerprint application and select the FS80 if required. Try a sample capture to confirm communication. If detection fails, check the USB connection, verify the driver selection, and consult the application's setup requirements.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Installer fails or stalls: Run the Futronic setup as administrator, unblock the downloaded file, and temporarily disable antivirus. Confirm you are using the correct 32/64-bit package for your Windows version.
  • Device not detected: Connect the FS80 directly to a rear USB port, not a hub. Check Device Manager for an unknown/Futronic device, test the USB cable, then reinstall the driver.
  • Driver/software version conflicts: Uninstall older Futronic software and any existing FS80 driver, including “Delete the driver software” in Device Manager. Reboot and install only the matching Futronic driver/SDK version.
