The Foxconn ATI Radeon HD 5450 audio driver enables compatible Windows systems to send sound through the graphics card’s HDMI connection to a monitor, television, or AV receiver. This audio component is separate from your motherboard’s sound driver and is intended for HDMI playback rather than analog speakers or a headset connected to the PC’s audio jacks.
Key Features
- HDMI audio output: Allows Windows to recognize the Radeon card’s audio device and route sound to a compatible HDMI display or receiver.
- Playback device integration: Makes the HDMI audio endpoint available in Windows sound settings so you can select it as your output device.
- Application audio support: Provides the driver interface needed for supported media players, games, and other applications to use HDMI sound.
- Graphics package integration: The audio component may be included in a compatible AMD/ATI graphics driver package, helping keep display and HDMI audio functionality aligned.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and system type. Confirm whether you use Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, and whether your installation is 32-bit or 64-bit. The Radeon HD 5450 is legacy hardware, so do not assume one package supports every listed operating system; verify compatibility before downloading, especially for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Choose the appropriate driver package. Select a Foxconn or AMD/ATI package that explicitly supports your card and Windows version. If you only need HDMI sound, check that the package includes the HDMI audio component.
- Run the installer. Close open applications, extract the downloaded files if necessary, and launch the setup program. Approve the administrator prompt and include the HDMI audio option if the installer offers component selection.
- Restart and connect your audio destination. Reboot if prompted, then connect the card’s HDMI output to a display or receiver that supports audio. Make sure the connected device is powered on and set to the correct input.
- Select and test HDMI playback. Open Windows sound settings and choose the HDMI display or receiver as the output device. Play a test sound and check both Windows volume and the destination device’s volume. If no HDMI output appears, inspect Device Manager for driver errors and confirm that the connection supports audio.
Installing this driver will not repair unrelated onboard audio issues. If your speakers use the motherboard’s analog audio ports, you need the driver for that separate sound device.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails or says no compatible hardware on Windows 10/11. The Foxconn HD 5450 is legacy and not supported by current AMD Adrenalin. Try the last legacy Catalyst package (15.7.1) in compatibility mode, or use Windows Update/Basic Display; don’t force a modern Adrenalin installer.
- Device not detected or no display. Reseat the card in the PCIe x16 slot, connect the monitor to the Radeon’s output (not the motherboard), and set PCIe/onboard graphics priority in BIOS. The HD 5450 needs no auxiliary power, so check the slot and monitor cable.
- Code 43 or version conflicts after switching drivers. Remove old AMD/Intel/NVIDIA display drivers with DDU in Safe Mode, reboot, then install one matching legacy package. Prevent Windows Update from replacing it if the screen flickers or resets.
