The Epson Perfection V39 is a flatbed scanner, rather than a printer, designed to digitize documents and photos. Its driver enables Windows to recognize the scanner and allows compatible scanning software to communicate with it. Choose the appropriate Epson driver for your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 before installing.
Key Features
- Scanner communication: Establishes the USB connection between the Epson Perfection V39 and your computer so supported applications can request and receive scans.
- Scan setting controls: Works with compatible Epson scanning software to let you adjust options such as resolution, color mode, and scan area.
- Document and photo capture: Supports scanning workflows for paper documents and photographs, with output options determined by the software you use.
- Windows integration: Makes the scanner available to compatible applications on supported Windows systems when the correct driver package is installed.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version. Confirm whether you are using Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, and check whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit where applicable. Select a driver package that explicitly supports your configuration and the original V39 model.
- Download the appropriate Epson package. Save the installer to a folder you can easily locate. If scanning software is supplied separately from the driver, download the compatible utility as well.
- Prepare the scanner and computer. Close any open scanning applications. Keep the scanner’s USB cable disconnected until the installer instructs you to connect it, unless the package’s instructions specify otherwise.
- Run the installation. Open the downloaded file, approve the Windows permission prompt if it appears, and follow the on-screen instructions. Connect the scanner directly to a USB port when requested, and allow setup to finish.
- Perform a test scan. Restart Windows if prompted, then open the installed scanning application. Place a document on the glass, select the Epson Perfection V39, and run a preview to confirm that the connection and scan settings work correctly.
If the scanner is not detected, check the USB connection and verify that you installed a package for the V39—not a similarly named model. Reconnecting it to another USB port may also help Windows recognize it.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or stalls: Uninstall older Epson Scan/Epson Scan 2 and Event Manager, reboot, disconnect the V39, then run the latest installer as administrator. Reconnect the USB cable only when prompted.
- Device not detected: Connect the V39 directly to a rear USB port, not a hub or front-panel port. Try a known-good USB cable, check Device Manager under Imaging devices, and reinstall Epson Scan 2 if the scanner is missing.
- Version conflicts: Remove duplicate Epson Scan and Epson Scan 2 installations, then install only the V39-compatible package. If Windows WIA and Epson Scan 2 conflict, set Epson Scan 2 as the default scanning app and reboot before testing.
