The EgisTec ES603 is a fingerprint sensor that uses an Egis driver to communicate with Windows and compatible authentication software. Installing the appropriate driver helps your PC recognize the reader and makes fingerprint capture available to supported applications. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a package that matches your operating system and hardware configuration.
Key Features
- Fingerprint reader recognition: Allows Windows to identify the EgisTec ES603 and communicate with it as a fingerprint input device.
- Authentication software support: Provides the hardware connection required by compatible fingerprint enrollment and sign-in applications.
- Device management: Makes it easier to check the reader’s status and manage its driver through Windows Device Manager.
- Restored hardware functionality: A suitable driver can help resolve detection problems caused by a missing, damaged, or incompatible installation.
How to Install
- Confirm your device and Windows version. Open Device Manager and locate the fingerprint reader. If it appears as an unknown device, check its hardware IDs under Properties > Details to confirm that the driver package matches. Also verify whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Download the matching driver. Select an EgisTec ES603 package intended for your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7. Check any compatibility notes, particularly if your computer manufacturer supplies a customized driver.
- Run the installer or update manually. Extract the download if necessary, then launch the included setup program. If there is no installer, right-click the reader in Device Manager, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
- Complete setup and restart. Follow the installation prompts and restart your computer if requested. Afterward, check Device Manager for any remaining warning icons.
- Configure fingerprint access. Use your computer’s supported fingerprint software or Windows sign-in settings to enroll a fingerprint, if available. Windows Hello compatibility depends on the sensor, driver, and system configuration; installing the driver alone does not guarantee support.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails or rolls back: Disconnect the ES603 fingerprint reader, run the installer as administrator, and temporarily disable antivirus/SmartScreen. If it still fails, uninstall the old EgisTec driver in Device Manager (select “Delete driver software”), reboot, then reinstall.
- Fingerprint reader not detected: Check Device Manager under “Biometric devices” and scan for hardware changes. Use a direct USB port instead of a hub, confirm the sensor is enabled in BIOS if applicable, and make sure the Windows Biometric Service is running.
- Version or Windows conflicts: Remove previous EgisTec/Elan fingerprint software before installing. Match the driver to your Windows version and architecture; don’t force older Vista/7 packages onto Windows 10/11. After updating, re-register fingerprints in Windows Hello.
