The Edirol FA 101 is a FireWire audio interface designed for multichannel recording and playback. Its driver allows Windows and compatible audio software to communicate with the interface, making its audio inputs, outputs, and MIDI connections available for music production.
Key Features
- Multichannel audio access: Enables compatible recording applications to use the FA 101’s available input and output channels for tracking, monitoring, and mixing.
- Low-latency operation: A compatible ASIO driver helps reduce the delay between incoming audio and software monitoring, with performance depending on buffer settings and your computer.
- MIDI connectivity: Provides access to the interface’s MIDI ports for connecting supported keyboards, controllers, and other MIDI equipment.
- Audio configuration: Offers driver settings for adjusting supported audio options, such as buffer size, to balance responsiveness and reliable playback.
How to Install
- Check compatibility before downloading. Confirm that the driver package explicitly supports your Windows version and system architecture. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, do not assume that an older Edirol FA 101 driver will work simply because it installs.
- Prepare the FireWire connection. The FA 101 requires a compatible IEEE 1394 connection; a standard USB cable or passive USB-to-FireWire adapter is not a substitute. Check that Windows recognizes your FireWire controller.
- Extract and run the installer. Close audio applications, unpack the downloaded archive if necessary, and follow the included installation instructions. Connect or power on the interface when the installer directs you to do so.
- Restart and verify detection. Restart Windows if prompted, then check Device Manager for the interface and any warning indicators. If installation fails, review the package’s compatibility notes before trying another driver.
- Configure your audio software. Select the Edirol FA 101 as the audio device in your recording application, choosing its ASIO driver where available. Set an appropriate buffer size and test playback and recording before starting a session.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails or rolls back: The FA-101 uses a legacy FireWire audio driver. Run the Edirol installer as Administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode, disconnect the interface until prompted, and temporarily disable driver signature enforcement on Windows 10/11 if installation is blocked.
- Device not detected: Check the FireWire cable, power supply, and port; avoid adapters. In Device Manager, look for unknown/1394 devices. If needed, install the legacy IEEE 1394 host controller driver and reconnect the FA-101 after the driver is installed.
- Version/device conflicts: Uninstall older Edirol/Roland drivers and remove duplicate FA-101 entries in Device Manager, then reboot. Install only the FA-101-matched driver, and set it as the default recording/playback device to avoid Windows generic audio driver conflicts.
