The DisplayLink DL 195 is a USB graphics controller used in compatible display adapters and docking stations to connect an additional monitor to a Windows PC. Its driver allows Windows to recognize the connected DisplayLink hardware and send desktop graphics to the external screen. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a driver release that supports both your operating system and this older DisplayLink controller.
Key Features
- USB display connectivity: Enables video output through a compatible DL 195-based adapter or dock, providing another display connection without installing an internal graphics card.
- Extended or mirrored desktop: Lets you expand your workspace across screens or duplicate your main display for presentations and shared viewing.
- Windows display integration: Works with Windows display settings so you can arrange monitors, select a supported resolution, and adjust screen orientation.
- DisplayLink device recognition: Provides the software needed for Windows to communicate with supported USB graphics hardware. Available resolutions and connection options depend on the adapter, monitor, and driver version.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version. Confirm whether your PC runs Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, and check its system type where applicable. Review the download’s compatibility information to ensure it explicitly supports the DisplayLink DL 195; newer software is not automatically suitable for older hardware.
- Download the matching driver. Select a compatible DisplayLink package, or use the driver recommended by your adapter or docking station manufacturer. Save your work and close unnecessary applications before starting.
- Run the installer. Open the downloaded setup file and approve the Windows permission prompt if requested. Follow the installation instructions, including any directions to disconnect or reconnect the USB display device.
- Connect your display. Attach the monitor to the adapter or dock, confirm that it has power, and select the correct input on the monitor. Connect the DisplayLink device to your computer and restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Configure the screen. Open Windows display settings, detect the monitor if necessary, and choose an extended or duplicated desktop. If the screen remains blank, check the cables and USB connection, then confirm that the installed driver supports your exact hardware and Windows version.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Old DisplayLink software or a Windows Update driver can block the DL-195 installer. Uninstall all DisplayLink entries in Apps & Features, reboot, then install the latest DisplayLink USB Graphics Software as administrator. Disconnect the DL-195 until setup finishes.
- Device not detected: Check the DL-195’s USB cable/port and use a powered USB hub if needed. In Device Manager, look under USB Display Adapters/Universal Serial Bus devices for errors. Try another USB port/cable and confirm the monitor is connected to the adapter before rebooting.
- Version conflicts: Mixing OEM dock drivers with DisplayLink’s package can cause flicker or no output. Remove both, run DisplayLink’s cleaner/installer, and avoid installing an older Windows Update DisplayLink driver over the new one.
