The Canon PIXMA MP280 Series Printer driver lets Windows communicate with your all-in-one printer so applications can send print jobs with the correct settings. A compatible Canon package may also include scanner support, allowing you to use the MP280 for both printing and document capture over its USB connection.

Key Features

  • Print settings and paper controls: Adjust paper size, media type, orientation, and print quality to suit everyday documents or photo projects.
  • Scanner support: Packages that include the scanner driver enable compatible software to capture documents and photos from the flatbed.
  • Maintenance options: Access supported functions such as nozzle checks, print head cleaning, and alignment to help troubleshoot print-quality problems.
  • Device status feedback: View available printer status information and alerts to help identify issues such as missing paper or ink-related warnings.

How to Install

  1. Check your Windows version. Before downloading, confirm whether you use Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, along with the system architecture where relevant. Select a package that explicitly supports your configuration; this older model may not have official drivers for every listed Windows version.
  2. Download the matching Canon driver. Verify that the package identifies the Canon PIXMA MP280 Series Printer. If you need scanning, check whether scanner support is included or requires a separate download.
  3. Prepare the printer and computer. Close open applications, load paper, and turn on the printer. Keep the USB cable disconnected until the installer asks you to connect it, unless the package instructions say otherwise.
  4. Run the installer. Open the downloaded setup file, approve the Windows permission prompt if requested, and follow the on-screen instructions. Connect the printer directly to a USB port when prompted and allow setup to finish.
  5. Test the installation. Restart Windows if instructed, then print a test page from the printer settings. If you installed scanner support, try a scan in a compatible application as well.

The MP280 uses USB rather than built-in Ethernet or Wi-Fi, so choose a local USB connection during setup. If installation fails on a newer Windows release, check Canon’s compatibility information before trying an older driver package.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or stalls: Run Canon’s MP280 Series setup as administrator, temporarily disable antivirus, and remove older Canon PIXMA drivers/software first. If Windows blocks it, use compatibility mode for the supported Windows version; reboot before reinstalling.
  • Printer not detected: Connect directly to a USB 2.0 port (not a hub), power on the MP280, and check Device Manager for unknown devices. Restart the Print Spooler service and try another cable/port; avoid WSD and use a USB port.
  • Driver/version conflicts: Delete duplicate MP280 queues in Print Management, uninstall old Canon drivers, then install only the official MP280 Series package. Prevent Windows Update from replacing it with a generic driver and set the correct USB port/default printer.
