The Bluetooth SPP Driver enables Windows to communicate with compatible Bluetooth devices that use the Serial Port Profile (SPP). It supports a wireless serial connection for equipment such as barcode scanners, GPS receivers, and industrial instruments, allowing compatible software to exchange data through a virtual COM port. Choose a package from the manufacturer that matches your hardware and Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 installation.
Key Features
- Serial communication over Bluetooth: Supports data exchange with SPP-enabled equipment without a physical serial cable.
- Virtual COM port access: Allows applications designed for serial connections to work with a compatible Bluetooth device.
- Device recognition and setup: Provides the components Windows needs to identify and configure the supported device’s serial communication interface.
- Support for serial-based workflows: Helps connect compatible peripherals to applications that collect readings, receive scanned data, or send device commands.
How to Install
- Confirm compatibility. Check the connected device’s model and the manufacturer’s supported Windows versions. Select the appropriate Bluetooth SPP Driver package for your system, including 32-bit or 64-bit architecture where applicable. Not every package supports all four Windows versions.
- Prepare your Bluetooth connection. Make sure your PC’s Bluetooth adapter is enabled and working. Turn on the peripheral and follow its instructions to enter pairing mode. The SPP driver does not replace the driver required for the PC’s Bluetooth adapter.
- Install the driver package. Extract the download if necessary, then run the supplied installer and follow the prompts. If the manufacturer provides driver files without an installer, open Device Manager, locate the relevant device, choose Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
- Pair and configure the device. Complete Bluetooth pairing through Windows settings if you have not already done so. Check Device Manager or the available Bluetooth COM port settings for the assigned serial port, then select that port in your application. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for any required communication settings.
- Test the connection. Restart Windows if prompted, then try a basic data transfer in the intended application. If communication fails, verify the COM port selection, confirm that the peripheral supports SPP, and close other programs that may already be using the port.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Disconnect the Bluetooth device, close apps using COM ports, and run the vendor installer as administrator. Remove older SPP/serial driver entries in Device Manager before retrying.
- Device not detected: Pair the device first, enable its SPP/serial service, and confirm the correct incoming/outgoing COM port appears. Restart the Bluetooth service and re-pair if no port is created.
- Version conflicts: Uninstall previous manufacturer SPP drivers and Microsoft Bluetooth serial entries, reboot, then install the matching vendor package. Avoid mixing drivers from different Bluetooth stacks.
