The Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) driver lets Windows use a compatible Bluetooth connection as a network link. It supports communication with devices that offer Bluetooth networking, such as a phone with Bluetooth tethering enabled, so your PC can access a shared internet connection without a USB cable.
Key Features
- Bluetooth network connectivity: Enables Personal Area Network (PAN) connections between your computer and compatible Bluetooth devices.
- Internet sharing support: Allows a Windows PC to use a paired device’s shared connection when that device supports and permits Bluetooth tethering.
- Windows network integration: Helps Windows recognize the Bluetooth PAN interface as a network adapter, making it available through the operating system’s networking controls.
- Support for compatible Windows systems: Driver packages may be available for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7. Choose the version that matches your operating system, system architecture, and Bluetooth hardware.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and hardware. Confirm whether your PC runs Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, and check its system architecture. Open Device Manager and look under Network adapters for Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network). Also verify that your Bluetooth adapter is detected.
- Choose a compatible driver. Review the package’s supported operating systems and hardware before downloading. Use a driver supplied by the manufacturer for your PC or Bluetooth adapter, or check Windows Update for an appropriate driver. Windows may already include the required PAN component.
- Install the downloaded package. If the download includes a setup program, run it and follow the prompts. For an extracted driver folder, right-click the device in Device Manager, select Update driver, and choose Browse my computer for drivers to locate the files.
- Restart if requested and pair your device. Keep Bluetooth enabled on both devices, complete pairing, and turn on Bluetooth tethering or network sharing on the device providing the connection.
- Connect and verify access. Use the Bluetooth device or network controls available in your Windows version to establish the PAN connection. Test internet access if tethering is enabled. If the connection fails, confirm that both devices support Bluetooth PAN and that the sharing device has an active internet connection.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Confirm the Bluetooth radio is enabled and not in airplane mode, close other Bluetooth software, and run the manufacturer’s Bluetooth/chipset installer as administrator. Uninstall the old “Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)” entry under Network adapters, then reboot and retry.
- Device not detected: Remove the existing pairing, put the phone/accessory in pairing mode, and re-pair. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes; if the PAN adapter is missing, reinstall the manufacturer’s Bluetooth radio driver.
- Version conflicts: If Windows replaced the OEM driver with a generic Bluetooth/PAN driver, roll back or update to the manufacturer’s matched Bluetooth and chipset driver. Remove duplicate PAN adapters, then disable/enable the remaining adapter.
