The Basler GigE Vision Adapter driver supports communication between compatible Basler GigE cameras and a Windows computer over Ethernet. It helps Basler camera software access the network connection used for image acquisition, making it an important part of a properly configured GigE Vision setup.
Key Features
- GigE Vision connectivity: Supports the Ethernet communication path used to discover and operate compatible Basler industrial cameras.
- Image acquisition support: Works with compatible Basler software to receive image data for inspection, measurement, and other camera-based applications.
- Network integration: Provides driver components for use with supported Ethernet adapters in a Basler camera system.
- Windows compatibility: Driver releases are available for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, but compatibility depends on the package version. Check the release documentation before downloading, especially for older Windows installations.
How to Install
- Check your system and camera requirements. Confirm your Windows version, system architecture, and camera model. Select a Basler driver package that explicitly supports your operating system and hardware; a newer release may not support Windows 8 or 7.
- Prepare the Ethernet connection. Connect the camera to a suitable network adapter using an appropriate Ethernet cable. Supply power as required by the camera, either through a supported Power over Ethernet connection or a separate power source.
- Run the installer. Close camera applications, then launch the downloaded installer with administrator privileges. If the driver is included in a Basler pylon software package, select the GigE camera support components offered by that installer.
- Complete setup and check network settings. Follow the prompts and restart Windows if requested. Ensure the camera and its Ethernet adapter have compatible IP settings. Follow Basler’s guidance before changing advanced options such as packet size or jumbo frames.
- Verify camera access. Open a compatible Basler camera application, such as pylon Viewer if installed, and check whether the camera is detected. Start a test acquisition to confirm that images arrive correctly. If discovery fails, review cabling, camera power, IP configuration, and firewall permissions before reinstalling the driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Often caused by an existing Basler GigE filter driver or pylon version. Run the installer as administrator, uninstall older Basler software first, reboot, then reinstall the matching package.
- Camera not detected: Confirm the Basler GigE Vision Adapter and camera are on the same subnet, the NIC link is active, and Windows Firewall isn’t blocking GigE Vision discovery. Check Jumbo Frames/MTU settings and use Basler IP Configurator or pylon Viewer to rescan.
- Version conflicts after upgrade: Mixing adapter, filter-driver, and pylon versions can break camera discovery or streaming. Remove all Basler components, reboot, and install one matched Basler release—avoid updating only the adapter driver.
