The AuthenTec AES2810 is a fingerprint sensor that needs the correct driver to communicate with Windows and compatible biometric software. Its driver allows the system to recognize the sensor and process fingerprint input for supported sign-in and authentication features. Although sometimes listed under Network, this AuthenTec device is used for biometric identification rather than network connectivity.
Key Features
- Device recognition: Helps Windows identify the AES2810 fingerprint sensor and make it available to compatible applications.
- Fingerprint input support: Provides the connection between the sensor hardware and software used to enroll and verify fingerprints.
- Biometric software integration: Enables supported authentication tools to access the reader; available features depend on the computer manufacturer’s software and driver package.
- Hardware-specific configuration: Supplies the settings needed for the matching sensor implementation, making it important to choose a package intended for your computer model.
How to Install
- Confirm your device and Windows version. Open Device Manager and locate the fingerprint reader, which may appear under Biometric devices or Other devices. Check its hardware IDs if the name is unclear, and confirm whether your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Check package compatibility. Select an AuthenTec AES2810 driver that explicitly supports your computer and operating system. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, verify the package requirements rather than assuming an older driver supports every version.
- Download and prepare the driver. Prefer a package supplied by your computer manufacturer or another trusted source. Extract the files if necessary, and review any included installation instructions.
- Install the package. Run the supplied installer, or use Device Manager, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Restart Windows if prompted.
- Verify operation and configure fingerprints. Check that the sensor appears without a warning icon, then open the supported biometric application to enroll a fingerprint.
A recognized sensor does not automatically guarantee Windows Hello compatibility. If fingerprint sign-in remains unavailable, check whether your system requires separate biometric software or a different manufacturer-approved driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or driver is rejected: Confirm the package matches your Windows version and 32/64-bit architecture. Run the installer as administrator, and remove any older AuthenTec fingerprint driver first.
- Fingerprint reader not detected: In Device Manager, check under Biometric devices and show hidden devices. Enable the fingerprint reader in BIOS/UEFI if present, then reboot and rescan for hardware.
- Version conflicts with Windows Hello or another biometric driver: Uninstall existing AuthenTec/Windows Hello biometric drivers, choose Delete driver software, reboot, then install only the AES2810 package. Ensure Windows Biometric Service is set to automatic.
