The Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 driver lets Windows communicate with your USB audio interface so recording and playback applications can use its inputs and outputs. Installing the appropriate driver helps you configure the interface for music production, voice recording, and everyday audio playback.
Key Features
- Audio input and output access: Makes the Audio Kontrol 1 available to compatible software for recording connected microphones or instruments and playing audio through your monitoring setup.
- ASIO support for music software: Provides an ASIO driver option for compatible digital audio workstations, helping reduce monitoring delay when configured correctly.
- Adjustable audio settings: Offers driver controls for settings such as sample rate and buffer size, allowing you to balance responsiveness against playback stability.
- Dedicated hardware communication: Enables Windows and supported audio applications to work with the interface through a device-specific driver rather than relying solely on generic audio support.
How to Install
- Check the driver requirements. Identify your Windows version and system architecture before downloading. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, review the package’s compatibility notes carefully; an older Audio Kontrol 1 release may not officially support every listed operating system.
- Prepare your computer. Close recording software and other applications using audio. Keep the interface disconnected unless the installer’s instructions tell you otherwise.
- Run the installer. Extract the download if necessary, launch the setup program, and approve the Windows permission prompt. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver components.
- Connect the interface. Restart Windows if prompted, then connect the Audio Kontrol 1 directly to a USB port on your computer. Allow Windows to finish detecting and configuring the device.
- Select and test the audio device. Open your recording application’s audio preferences and choose the Native Instruments interface or its ASIO driver. Select the required inputs and outputs, test playback and recording, and increase the buffer size if you hear clicks or dropouts.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails or rolls back: Run the Native Instruments installer as Administrator, temporarily disable antivirus, and use a direct USB 2.0 port. If setup still fails, uninstall any previous Audio Kontrol 1/NI drivers, reboot, then reinstall the version matching your Windows build.
- Device not detected: Check the USB cable and try a rear motherboard port instead of a hub. In Device Manager, look under Sound, video and game controllers; if an unknown device appears, reinstall the driver. Confirm the Audio Kontrol 1 USB LED is on and no audio app is holding it exclusively.
- Version/ASIO conflicts: Remove old Audio Kontrol 1 or NI driver entries before upgrading. In your DAW, select the Native Instruments ASIO driver and match sample rates in Windows and the DAW, e.g. 44.1 or 48 kHz. Avoid ASIO4ALL unless specifically needed.
