The ATI Radeon HD 4670 driver allows Windows to communicate with your graphics card, enabling display settings, hardware acceleration, and graphics features that a basic display driver may not provide. Choosing a compatible driver can help resolve incorrect resolutions, missing graphics controls, and some display problems.
Key Features
- Display configuration: Provides access to supported screen resolutions, refresh rates, and color settings for your connected monitor.
- Graphics acceleration: Enables the card’s supported DirectX and OpenGL features for compatible games and applications, subject to driver and operating system limitations.
- Video playback support: Allows compatible media software to use the GPU’s video acceleration capabilities, potentially reducing CPU workload.
- Multiple-monitor controls: Supports configuration of additional displays where the card’s connections and installed driver allow it. Some packages also include ATI Catalyst Control Center for additional adjustments.
How to Install
- Confirm your graphics card and Windows version. Open Device Manager and check Display adapters for the ATI Radeon HD 4670. Verify whether your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit before selecting a package.
- Check compatibility carefully. This is a legacy ATI GPU, so driver availability differs across Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. Do not assume a download supports every listed system: Windows 10 and Windows 11 do not have official ATI/AMD driver support for this card. Check the package’s supported operating systems and hardware list before proceeding.
- Prepare for the installation. Download a package from a trusted source, close running games and graphics applications, and create a restore point if System Protection is enabled. If you are replacing another graphics card, remove its old display software where appropriate.
- Install the compatible driver. Extract the download if necessary, then run the installer and follow its prompts. If the package requires manual installation, use Device Manager’s Update driver option and browse to the extracted driver folder. Avoid forcing an incompatible driver to install.
- Restart and verify operation. Reboot your PC, confirm that Device Manager recognizes the card without a warning icon, and check your display resolution. If the installation causes instability or display issues, roll back the driver or restore the previous configuration.
On newer Windows versions, a basic display driver may provide limited functionality, but it should not be expected to deliver the same acceleration or controls as a compatible legacy driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails / “no compatible hardware”: Current AMD Adrenalin packages do not support the HD 4670. Use the last legacy Catalyst driver for HD 4000 series (e.g. Catalyst 13.1) and run the installer as administrator; if it still fails, update the driver manually via Device Manager by selecting the extracted INF.
- Device not detected: Reseat the card, confirm the monitor is connected to the HD 4670 output, and set PCIe/PEG as primary display in BIOS. On systems with integrated graphics, disable or override the iGPU if needed.
- Version conflicts / Code 43 or black screen: Remove existing AMD/NVIDIA drivers with DDU in Safe Mode, reboot, then install only the legacy ATI package. Do not mix modern Adrenalin with legacy Catalyst.
