The Android Composite ADB Interface driver lets Windows recognize the Android Debug Bridge connection exposed by a compatible Android device over USB. It enables ADB tools to communicate with the device for development, diagnostics, and troubleshooting. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a driver package from the manufacturer that supports your device and Windows version.
Key Features
- ADB communication: Provides the Windows interface needed for authorized ADB commands, including reading diagnostic logs, installing test apps, and accessing a device shell.
- Composite USB support: Allows Windows to identify the ADB function on devices that expose multiple USB interfaces, such as debugging and file transfer.
- Device recognition: Helps resolve a missing or incorrectly assigned ADB driver in Device Manager when the package matches the connected hardware.
- Support for development tools: Enables compatible Android debugging utilities to connect once USB debugging is enabled and the computer is authorized on the device.
How to Install
- Check compatibility before downloading. Confirm that the manufacturer’s driver supports your Android device, your Windows version, and your system architecture. A package intended for Windows 7 or 8 may not be suitable for Windows 10 or 11.
- Prepare the Android device. Enable Developer options, then turn on USB debugging. Connect the device directly to your computer using a USB cable that supports data transfer, and keep the device unlocked during setup.
- Install the driver package. Extract the downloaded files if necessary. Run the included installer and follow its instructions. If no installer is provided, open Device Manager, locate the unrecognized Android or ADB entry, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder.
- Authorize the connection. Accept the USB debugging prompt on the Android device only if you trust the connected computer. Reconnect the cable if Windows or the device requests it.
- Verify ADB access. Check that Device Manager lists the Android Composite ADB Interface without a warning icon. If Android SDK Platform-Tools are installed, run `adb devices` to confirm detection. An “unauthorized” status usually means the device’s debugging prompt still needs approval.
Although this entry may appear in a Camera category, an ADB driver is intended for debugging communication. It does not, by itself, enable webcam streaming or replace a separate camera driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Driver install fails: Run the installer as administrator. If Windows blocks it, use the manufacturer’s signed ADB driver, not an unsigned copy. In Device Manager, uninstall existing “Android Composite ADB Interface” entries and check “Delete driver software,” then reinstall.
- Device not detected: Enable Developer Options and USB debugging, set USB mode to MTP/PTP, and use a data-capable cable/direct port. If it appears as unknown, manually update the driver and point Windows to the extracted INF file.
- Version/ADB conflicts: Remove older Google/OEM ADB drivers and duplicate SDK packages. Run `adb kill-server` then `adb start-server`. Use `adb devices -l` to confirm the interface, and update only the matching Android Composite ADB Interface driver.
