The Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (Sink) driver helps Windows recognize the receiving side of a Bluetooth stereo audio connection, such as compatible wireless headphones or speakers. It works with the Bluetooth adapter and Windows audio services to support media playback through the paired device.
Key Features
- Bluetooth stereo audio support: Enables compatible receiving devices to handle music, video sound, and other media sent over an A2DP connection.
- Audio device integration: Helps Windows identify the Bluetooth audio endpoint so it can appear among the available playback outputs.
- Connection troubleshooting: Installing the appropriate driver may resolve missing-device entries, driver warnings, or unavailable Bluetooth audio output.
- System-specific compatibility: Driver packages may differ for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, so select a version that matches your operating system, Bluetooth hardware, and system architecture.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and hardware. Confirm whether your PC runs Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 and whether it uses a 32-bit or 64-bit system. In Device Manager, review the Bluetooth adapter and any Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (Sink) entry with a warning symbol.
- Choose a compatible driver. Use a package supplied by the manufacturer for your PC or Bluetooth adapter. A2DP support is often included with Windows or the adapter’s Bluetooth software rather than provided as a separate download.
- Install the driver package. Extract the downloaded files if needed, then run the installer and follow its instructions. If the package contains only driver files, open Device Manager, right-click the relevant device, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
- Restart and reconnect. Restart your computer if prompted. Turn on the Bluetooth audio device and reconnect it; if Windows still uses an old or incomplete pairing, remove the device and pair it again.
- Select and test the audio output. Open Windows sound settings, choose the Bluetooth device as the playback output, and play a short audio clip. If it does not appear, check that Bluetooth is enabled and that the device is not connected to another audio source.
A2DP is intended for media audio, not microphone input. Voice calls may use a separate Bluetooth profile, and available features depend on both the adapter and the paired device.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails: Verify the driver matches your Windows version and Bluetooth adapter/stack. Run the installer as administrator, close Bluetooth settings, and remove older A2DP/Bluetooth audio entries in Device Manager before retrying.
- Device not detected as a sink: Enable Bluetooth and the A2DP Sink service, make the PC discoverable, and put the source phone/tablet in pairing mode. Delete old pairings, re-pair, and ensure “Media audio” is enabled on the source.
- Version conflicts or duplicate devices: Uninstall previous Bluetooth audio drivers, remove stale A2DP Sink entries, reboot, then install the manufacturer’s latest package. Avoid mixing vendor Bluetooth suites; use one stack and reset the default playback device.
