The ADE7880 Evaluation Board (COM14) driver allows Windows to recognize the board’s communication interface so compatible evaluation software can connect to it. If the board appears as an unknown device or its serial connection is unavailable, installing the appropriate driver may restore communication.
Key Features
- Device recognition: Helps Windows identify the evaluation board’s interface rather than leaving it listed as an unrecognized peripheral.
- Serial-port access: Enables compatible software to communicate through the assigned COM port. Although this device is labeled COM14, Windows may assign a different port number on another computer.
- Evaluation software connectivity: Provides the communication layer used by the manufacturer’s tools to interact with the board. Measurement and configuration features depend on the software and board setup.
- Windows driver options: When downloading for Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, select a package explicitly intended for your operating system and system architecture. A single package may not cover every version.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version. Open your system information and confirm whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit installation. Choose the corresponding ADE7880 Evaluation Board driver package and review any compatibility notes.
- Prepare the board and download. Save the driver package locally and extract it if necessary. Close any evaluation applications, then follow the manufacturer’s instructions for board power, connections, and whether the board should remain disconnected during setup.
- Install the driver. Run the included installer, if provided, and approve the administrator prompt. For a package containing driver files only, open Device Manager, locate the board or unknown device, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted folder.
- Connect and verify detection. Connect the board as directed and allow Windows to finish configuring it. Check Device Manager for the device, typically under Ports (COM & LPT) when using a serial interface, and confirm that no warning icon appears.
- Select the correct port in your software. Open the compatible evaluation application and choose the COM number shown in Device Manager. Use COM14 only if that is the current assignment. If communication fails, check the cable, board power, and whether another application is already using the port before reinstalling the driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Driver install fails or is blocked: Run the manufacturer’s ADE7880 board installer as administrator. If Windows blocks an older unsigned package, use the current vendor-signed driver or temporarily disable driver signature enforcement during install.
- Board not detected / COM14 missing: Use a data-capable USB cable, connect directly to the PC rather than a hub, confirm the board is powered, then rescan in Device Manager. If Windows assigns another COM number, update the ADE7880 evaluation software to use the actual port instead of COM14.
- Driver or COM-port conflicts: Uninstall previous USB-serial/vendor drivers, remove hidden COM ports in Device Manager, reboot, and reinstall the current package. If COM14 is already in use, assign a free COM port and update the host application’s port setting.
