The Crystal SoundFusion Audio Device driver allows Windows to communicate with compatible Cirrus Logic audio hardware, enabling sound playback and access to supported audio controls. If your PC has no sound, shows an unidentified audio device, or lost audio after a system change, installing a matching driver may help restore normal operation. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, check the package’s compatibility carefully, as older SoundFusion hardware may not have a suitable driver for every version.
Key Features
- Audio hardware recognition: Helps Windows identify the Crystal SoundFusion Audio Device and make it available to applications that use system audio.
- Sound playback support: Enables compatible hardware to handle audio from music players, videos, games, and other desktop software.
- Recording functions: Provides access to microphone or line-in inputs where these connections and capabilities are supported by the sound card.
- Windows audio controls: Works with supported system settings for selecting playback and recording devices and adjusting volume levels. Available options depend on the hardware and driver version.
How to Install
- Identify your audio hardware. Open Device Manager and look under “Sound, video and game controllers” or “Other devices.” Open the device’s Properties, select the Details tab, and choose Hardware Ids to help confirm that the driver matches your Cirrus Logic hardware.
- Check Windows compatibility. Confirm your Windows version and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. Choose a package that explicitly supports both your operating system and device ID; a driver intended for Windows 7 should not be assumed to work on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Prepare the download. Download the matching driver from a trusted source and extract it if necessary. Create a system restore point before replacing an existing audio driver, especially on a system with legacy hardware.
- Install the driver. Run the included installer and follow its prompts. If the package has no installer, right-click the audio device in Device Manager, select Update driver, choose “Browse my computer for drivers,” and point Windows to the extracted folder. Do not force an incompatible package or bypass driver-signature checks.
- Restart and test audio. Reboot if prompted, then check your playback device and volume settings. Play an audio file and test any connected microphone. If sound stops working after installation, use Roll Back Driver in Device Manager when available, or restore the previous working configuration.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Installer fails on modern Windows: The Cirrus Logic package is often unsigned/legacy. Run `setup.exe` as administrator in Windows XP/Vista compatibility mode. If installation still blocks, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement, then install via Device Manager → Update driver → Browse → Have Disk and point to the correct Crystal SoundFusion `.inf`.
- Device not detected: Confirm onboard audio is enabled in BIOS/UEFI, or reseat the sound card if PCI. Check Device Manager for an unknown “Multimedia Audio Controller”; if present, install the matching CS4281/CS461x INF manually rather than relying on Windows Update.
- Version conflicts/old driver remains: Uninstall existing Crystal SoundFusion and generic audio drivers, remove hidden devices, reboot, then install the Cirrus Logic driver. Prevent Windows Update from replacing it afterward via Device Installation Settings.
