The PreSonus AudioBox USB driver lets Windows communicate with your audio interface so you can record microphones and instruments and play audio through its outputs. Installing the appropriate driver helps recording software recognize the interface and access its audio inputs and outputs reliably.
Key Features
- Audio input and output support: Connects the AudioBox USB to compatible Windows applications for recording and playback.
- ASIO support for recording software: Allows compatible digital audio workstations to use the interface through an ASIO driver, with latency depending on your buffer settings and computer performance.
- Recording configuration: Provides access to supported audio settings, helping you balance responsiveness and stability for your sessions.
- Windows compatibility: Driver releases are available for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7. Choose a package that explicitly supports your Windows version and the original AudioBox USB model.
How to Install
- Check your device and Windows version. Confirm that your interface is the PreSonus AudioBox USB rather than a similarly named model, such as the AudioBox USB 96. Check whether your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit where applicable.
- Download the matching driver package. Review its compatibility notes before downloading. Older Windows versions may require a legacy release rather than the latest installer.
- Run the installer. Close your recording applications, launch the downloaded setup file, and approve the Windows permission prompt. Follow the installer’s instructions about when to connect or disconnect the interface.
- Connect the interface and finish setup. Use a direct USB connection to your computer when possible. Allow Windows to complete device detection, and restart the computer if prompted.
- Select the AudioBox USB in your software. Open your recording application’s audio preferences, choose the PreSonus ASIO driver if available, and select the required inputs and outputs. Test playback and recording, then adjust the buffer size if you notice excessive delay or crackling.
If the interface is not detected, try another USB port or a known-working USB cable before reinstalling. For everyday Windows playback, you may also need to select the AudioBox USB as the output device in Windows sound settings.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or stalls: Disconnect the AudioBox USB before running the Universal Control installer. Run the installer as administrator, reboot, then connect the interface directly to a rear USB port.
- Device not detected: Try a known-good USB cable and avoid unpowered hubs. In Device Manager, check for warnings under Sound, video and game controllers; uninstall the AudioBox USB entry, replug it, and let Windows re-detect it.
- Driver/version conflicts: Uninstall older Universal Control and PreSonus AudioBox drivers, reboot, then install the latest Universal Control for your Windows version. Set the AudioBox USB as the default playback/recording device and match its sample rate in Windows and your DAW.
