The Atmel Touchscreen Control driver enables Windows to communicate with the Atmel touch controller built into a compatible computer or display. It helps the system recognize touchscreen input and pass touch actions to supported applications. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a driver package that matches both your hardware and operating system.
Key Features
- Touch input support: Allows a compatible touchscreen to register taps, selections, and other supported touch interactions in Windows.
- Controller recognition: Provides the device information Windows needs to identify and configure the Atmel Touchscreen Control hardware.
- Windows integration: Connects the touch controller with the operating system’s input functions so compatible programs can respond to touch.
- Hardware-specific configuration: Applies settings intended for the supported controller. Available gestures and multi-touch capabilities depend on the touchscreen, driver version, and Windows edition.
How to Install
- Confirm your device and Windows version. Open Device Manager and locate the touch controller. If it appears as an unknown device, check its Hardware IDs under Properties > Details. Verify whether your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Choose a compatible driver. Download a package that explicitly supports your controller and your version of Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7. For a laptop, tablet, or all-in-one PC, prefer the computer manufacturer’s approved package when available.
- Prepare the files. Extract the download if it is compressed, and review any included installation instructions. Keep a mouse or keyboard connected in case touch input becomes temporarily unavailable.
- Install the driver. Run the supplied installer and follow its prompts. If the package contains driver files without an installer, right-click the device in Device Manager, select Update driver, and choose Browse my computer for drivers to locate the extracted folder.
- Restart and test touch input. Reboot if prompted, then check taps and any supported gestures. If touch remains unavailable, inspect Device Manager for errors and confirm that the package matches the device’s Hardware IDs.
A driver cannot add touch capability to a display without compatible touchscreen hardware. If a newer package causes problems, use Roll Back Driver in Device Manager when that option is available.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or rolls back: Run the Atmel Touchscreen Control installer as administrator. If Windows blocks the driver, check the manufacturer’s signed package and temporarily disable driver signature enforcement, then reboot and reinstall.
- Touchscreen not detected: Confirm the touchscreen is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and connected correctly (internal I2C/USB or ribbon cable). In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes and ensure the required HID/I2C controller drivers are installed.
- Version conflicts or duplicate devices: Uninstall the existing Atmel touchscreen driver, select “Delete the driver software,” remove hidden/ghost touch devices, restart, then install the correct version. Afterward, prevent Windows Update from replacing it automatically if touch input breaks.
