Question 1

Install fails or reports unsigned/incompatible driver?

Accepted Answer

ZD1211 packages are often 32-bit and intended for XP/Vista. Match Windows architecture, run setup as administrator, or use Device Manager > Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > Have Disk and point to the INF. On modern Windows, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement only for testing.

Question 2

Device not detected (Unknown Device/Network Controller)?

Accepted Answer

Check USB/CardBus seating and try another port/slot. In Device Manager, verify the Vendor/Device ID (ZyDAS 0x0586 / ZD1211) and install the INF manually; avoid generic Wi-Fi drivers.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Windows may install a newer but incompatible driver. Roll back in Device Manager > Properties > Driver, or uninstall the device and delete the driver package, then reinstall the matching ZyDAS package.
