The Acer AL1714 is an LCD monitor, not a graphics card, so its monitor driver serves a different purpose from a GPU driver. When available, the Acer monitor INF file helps Windows identify the display and use its specified capabilities; it does not replace the driver for your computer’s graphics hardware.
Key Features
- Display identification: A matching monitor driver can identify the Acer AL1714 by model rather than showing only a generic monitor name in Device Manager.
- Monitor capability information: The INF file supplies display-specific information that Windows can use alongside the capabilities reported by the connected monitor.
- Color profile support: If the package includes a compatible color profile, it can provide a starting point for color-managed applications. This is not a substitute for display calibration.
- Works alongside your graphics driver: Monitor setup information complements the GPU driver, which remains responsible for rendering, video output, and most display controls.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version and current setup. For Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7, confirm that the download explicitly supports your operating system and the Acer AL1714. An older monitor package is not automatically compatible with every listed Windows version.
- Download and extract the matching package. Use an Acer-provided or otherwise verified source. If the download is a ZIP archive, extract it to an easy-to-find folder and look for an INF file.
- Open Device Manager. Expand Monitors, then locate the connected display. It may appear as Generic PnP Monitor before a model-specific driver is installed. If several monitors are connected, verify which entry belongs to this device.
- Install the monitor driver. Right-click the appropriate entry, select Update driver, and choose Browse my computer for drivers. Point Windows to the extracted folder and follow the prompts. Do not force installation if Windows reports that the driver is incompatible.
- Verify the display settings. Restart if prompted, then check the monitor entry and select the recommended resolution in Windows display settings. Use only refresh rates supported by the monitor.
If no compatible Acer AL1714 package is available, Windows’ built-in monitor support may already provide normal operation. For missing resolution options, flickering, or a blank screen, also check the display cable and the actual graphics card driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Driver install fails: The AL1714 uses an older monitor INF that Windows may block. Run the installer as administrator, set compatibility mode for an older Windows version, or install the monitor manually via Device Manager > Update driver > Browse.
- Device not detected: Confirm the AL1714 is powered on, the VGA/DVI cable is secure, and the correct input source is selected. In Windows, use Device Manager > Action > Scan for hardware changes; if still missing, try another cable/port.
- Version conflicts: A leftover Acer or generic monitor driver can cause resolution/refresh issues. Uninstall the monitor in Device Manager, check “Delete the driver software,” reboot, then install the correct AL1714 package or let Windows use the Generic PnP Monitor driver.
