Name: wpdmtphw.inf Driver
Author: 3Com

Question 1

Install fails or Code 28 (“no driver found”)?

Accepted Answer

The MTP/portable-device INF must match the USB hardware ID. Connect the 3Com device directly, unlock it, set USB mode to MTP/file transfer, then use Device Manager > Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > Have Disk and point to `wpdmtphw.inf`.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

MTP devices often appear only when unlocked and using a data-capable cable. Try another USB port, check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or “MTP,” and reinstall the INF. Avoid charge-only cables.

Question 3

Version conflicts/Code 10 or 39?

Accepted Answer

Windows’ inbox MTP driver may be newer than a bundled 3Com INF. Prefer Windows Update, roll back if it worked before, or remove the old driver package with `pnputil /delete-driver <oem*.inf>` before rescanning.
