Question 1

Install fails or drive appears as unknown device?

Accepted Answer

The WD7500BPKT is a 2.5-inch SATA HDD and uses the motherboard’s AHCI/SATA controller driver, not a dedicated WD driver. Update the chipset SATA driver, set BIOS SATA mode to AHCI (or the matching RAID mode), then rescan Device Manager.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port, and confirm the drive spins up. Check BIOS detection and Windows Disk Management/Diskpart. If using a USB adapter, ensure it supplies enough power for a 2.5-inch HDD.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Mixing Intel RST, AMD RAID, or generic AHCI drivers can cause errors. Uninstall or roll back the conflicting storage driver, reboot, and let Windows load the correct AHCI driver. Avoid forcing unrelated WD firmware utilities.
