Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Try a different USB cable and rear USB port, avoid unpowered hubs, and check Device Manager for yellow warnings. In Disk Management, rescan disks and assign a drive letter if the WD5000E035 appears without one.

Question 2

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Windows usually uses its built-in USB mass storage driver. Run any WD installer as administrator, disconnect other external drives, and update the driver via Device Manager > Disk drives/Universal Serial Bus controllers > Update driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts or unknown device?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the affected USB Mass Storage/disk entry in Device Manager, tick “Delete driver software,” reboot, and reconnect. Update motherboard USB/chipset drivers and avoid forcing older WD or USB drivers.
