Question 1

WD SES Device shows a yellow warning or “Unknown device”?

Accepted Answer

Windows 11 likely lacks a compatible SES driver. Try another USB port/cable, then install the latest WD SES driver or WD Drive Utilities/Security from Western Digital support. In Device Manager, right-click the device > Update driver > Browse and point to the extracted driver folder.

Question 2

Driver install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the WD installer as administrator, disconnect other WD drives, and temporarily pause third-party antivirus. If Windows blocks an older package, download the Windows 11-compatible SES driver directly from WD support.

Question 3

Version conflict after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

An older inbox/Windows Update SES driver can clash with WD software. Uninstall “WD SES Device” and check “Delete driver software,” reboot, then reinstall the current WD driver. Do not force a generic USB mass-storage driver.
