Question 1

Windows install fails or drive missing during setup?

Accepted Answer

The WD1600XMS is a SATA HDD and needs the motherboard/chipset AHCI or RAID driver. Load the correct storage driver from the board vendor via USB, and keep BIOS SATA mode consistent (AHCI vs RAID).

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the SATA data and power cables, try another SATA port/cable, confirm the drive appears in BIOS, and test it in another enclosure or system.

Question 3

Storage driver version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Mismatched Intel RST/AMD SATA drivers can cause BSODs or dropped disks. Uninstall the current storage driver, install the version recommended by your motherboard vendor, reboot, and roll back if problems persist.
