Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

The WD1600BEVS is a standard 2.5" SATA drive and needs no WD-specific driver. Check the SATA data and power cables, try another port, and confirm the BIOS/UEFI detects the drive. Set the SATA mode to AHCI unless your system requires IDE/RAID.

Question 2

Windows install fails or setup can’t see the drive?

Accepted Answer

Load your motherboard’s chipset/SATA AHCI driver during setup if prompted. Avoid outdated IDE/RAID modes. After booting Windows, check Disk Management and initialize/format the drive if it appears as unallocated.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall conflicting Intel RST, AMD RAID, or third-party AHCI packages, then install the latest motherboard SATA/AHCI driver. Don’t install WD utilities as storage drivers; they are not required for this drive.
