Question 1

Install fails or Device Manager shows Code 28/Unknown device?

Accepted Answer

Run the manufacturer’s PL2501 installer as administrator, reboot, then rescan hardware. If Windows blocks the package, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement only for signed vendor drivers and reinstall.

Question 2

Bridge not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the PC, not a hub; swap the USB cable; power-cycle the bridge. In Device Manager, enable View > Show hidden devices, uninstall stale USB bridge entries, then rescan.

Question 3

Version conflicts/old driver keeps loading?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any existing PL2501/USB bridge driver, select Delete the driver software, reboot, and install the latest manufacturer package. Avoid mixing Windows Update and vendor drivers.
