Question 1

Driver install fails?

Accepted Answer

Run the UMAX Astra 5650 driver installer as administrator and use Windows compatibility mode for older Windows versions. If Windows blocks the legacy driver, confirm the package is the correct 32/64-bit version before retrying.

Question 2

Scanner not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the Astra 5650’s power and USB cable, try a direct rear USB port, and look in Device Manager for an unknown device. Reconnect after installing the driver, then test with Windows Fax and Scan or a TWAIN app.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall previous UMAX scanner software and any duplicate WIA/TWAIN entries in Device Manager, restart, then install only one Astra 5650 driver package. Avoid mixing generic Windows scanner drivers with the UMAX package.
