Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The Santa Cruz package is legacy and may need Windows compatibility mode (XP/7) plus admin rights. If setup still fails, extract the driver and install manually via Device Manager > Update driver > Browse to the INF.

Question 2

Card not detected?

Accepted Answer

Shut down, reseat the PCI card, try another PCI slot, and disable onboard audio in BIOS. In Device Manager, look for an unknown “Multimedia Audio Controller”; if it’s absent, the card or slot isn’t being enumerated.

Question 3

Version conflicts/no sound?

Accepted Answer

Remove old Santa Cruz and onboard audio drivers, reboot, then install only one package. Set Santa Cruz as the default playback device and avoid mixing older WDM/VxD-era drivers.
