Name: ThinkPad Display 800x600 Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The IBM display driver may lack modern OS signing. Run the installer as administrator, use Windows compatibility mode for the original OS, or install manually via Device Manager > Update driver > Browse and select the extracted INF.

Question 2

Device not detected / stuck at 640x480?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the ThinkPad’s internal panel is enabled in BIOS and not set to external-only. Check Device Manager for unknown display adapters, then scan for hardware changes. For 800x600 mode, verify the monitor/display properties allow that resolution.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Windows may replace the IBM driver with a generic one. Uninstall the current display adapter with “Delete the driver software,” reboot, reinstall the IBM package, then block automatic driver updates or roll back in Device Manager.
